The program will accept fellows who meet the following eligibility criteria:
- NAIRR-pilot PI eligible researchers (US-based researchers and educators from US-based institutions who are working in the US).
- Graduate students are eligible to apply but must include a letter of collaboration from their graduate advisor (see application info below).
For the application, please prepare in advance a single PDF document named YOURLASTNAME-YOURFIRSTNAME_2026JS2AIFellow.pdf
containing:
- Statement of affirmation that you are eligible to be an NAIRR-pilot PI and plan to work in the US during the fellowship period (January—October 2026).
- CV or NSF Biosketch (no more than three pages).
- A project description (no more than three pages in length in 11-pt. font) which contains:
- A project summary describing the overall scientific goals of the project, proposed application of AI techniques, and contribution to either the domain-science research or the application of AI techniques to scientific research.
- A description of the technical implementation of the proposed project.
- A proposed timeline for carrying out the project within the 9-month fellowship program.
- An estimate of compute and storage needs.
- A description of the proposed community contribution.
- Graduate students must include a letter of collaboration from their graduate advisor confirming their awareness of the request and engagement in guiding the computational activity. It should be written on institutional letterhead and state that the proposed work is being performed primarily by the graduate student and is separate from the advisor’s own research. It should also list the full contact information for the graduate advisor.
Travel to/from the kickoff meeting is paid by the Jetstream2 project. This includes airfare, lodging, meals, and other eligible travel-related expenses associated with the meeting.
Upon successful completion of the program, fellows will receive a $5000 stipend. If you have questions about the stipend or if alternative arrangements would better facilitate your participation, please contact help@jetstream-cloud.org.

- November 10, 2025: Awarded proposals announced on or by this date
Timeline of requirements for fellows
- January 5-9, 2026: Attend in-person kickoff meeting in Tucson, AZ
- Throughout 2026: Participate in events, trainings, and consultations
- May 30, 2026: Submit a mid-program progress report
- September 30, 2026: Attend wrap-up event where fellows give final presentations to Jetstream2 staff. Final deliverables will include:
- 1-2 hour AI-related tutorial or module presented either via webinar or at an in-person event.
- A report or formal case study describing the AI research or education use case proposed in the project description, implementation details, major contributions resulting from access to Jetstream2 resources, and future work.
- Individual contribution for news article written by IU.
- Final presentation (~10 minutes) to Jetstream2 team.
